My Story

Vintageferie isn’t just a business. It’s my life story, and the reason I’m still here today.

My name is Thomas Gudbrandsen. On January 17, 2021, my life changed forever. I was in a serious accident that left me with brain damage and the frightening reality of starting from zero. I had to relearn even the most basic things — like how to talk. For months I didn’t know if I would ever drive again, or if I could return to the life I loved.

Getting my license back in October 2021 was more than a piece of paper — it was freedom, it was survival, it was proof that I had fought my way back. From that day until the following March, I drove over 35,000 kilometers through rain, storms, and snow in my 1963 VW Beetle with a little MKP caravan behind me. People thought I was crazy, but I was chasing the storms on purpose. I was desperate to feel alive again, to test myself against nature, to feel every drop of rain, every gust of wind, every mile of road. It was my therapy, my healing, and my way back to myself.

And out of that journey came Vintageferie.

For me, these trips are not just about driving veteran cars or showing off the breathtaking Norwegian west coast — they are about life itself. They are about second chances, about slowing down, about sharing the road and the fire with others who also want to feel alive. Every day we drive through new mountains, fjords, and along the ocean, and every night we gather around the bonfire, cook together, and share stories.

And every day, I live fully — because I know that tomorrow is not promised. I don’t believe in being too busy planning for the future, because I’ve learned the hard way that tomorrow may never come. What we have is this moment, this road, this view, this fire, these people. That is what Vintageferie is all about.

When you join Vintageferie, you’re not just signing up for a holiday. You’re stepping into my story — a story of falling, getting back up, and choosing to live with everything I have, here and now.

This is my way of giving back, of sharing the gift I was given: another chance to live, to drive, and to feel free.

Travel With Me

When you book a trip with me, you’re not signing up for a standard package tour. You’re joining me on the road in my vintage VW camper setup for a journey shaped completely around you.

I don’t run fixed weekend or one-week programs. Instead, every trip is flexible and lasts as long as you want — whether that’s a few days or several weeks. The only requirement is a minimum of 2 people to book.

You can choose to ride with me in my VW or drive one of my VW cars yourself (T2, T3, Beetle, or VW Baja). Accommodation is part of the adventure — we sleep in a mix of the camping wagon, roof tent, and the VW vans (double beds).

I’m based right by the famous Atlantic Ocean Road, one of Norway’s most scenic drives. From here we set off together to explore fjords, mountains, coastal roads, and hidden gems.

I keep groups small (usually 4–6 people), which makes the experience personal and flexible. Expect winding roads, wild nature, starry skies, and evenings by the fire.

I’ll put together a custom price and send it to you by email.

To confirm your booking, a 50% deposit is required at the time of booking, with the remaining 50% paid upon arrival.
